Synopsis

Last time BJP announced implementing CAA, defeat for the party in the Delhi assembly elections followed. Having won all seven parliamentary constituencies in Delhi in the May 2019 elections on the ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas’ slogan (support, development and trust for all), nine months later, in the assembly elections, BJP opted for a communal divisive electoral strategy by promising a nationwide NRC and CAA.

Covid-19 had brought India a temporary respite from the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NCR). It is election time now and CAA is back in the news. Last week, Home Minister Amit Shah announced at an election rally in West Bengal that GoI would implement CAA in the state once vaccination and the pandemic are over.Last time BJP announced implementing CAA, defeat for the party in the Delhi assembly elections
