Firms from countries sharing land border with India can’t bid for govt contracts

The move follows border tensions between India and China in which 20 Indian soldiers were killed. India had in April made prior government clearance mandatory for all Chinese foreign direct investment.

SynopsisThe move largely directed at Chinese companies makes prior registration with Competent Authority mandatory for any bidder from these countries before they apply for any government contract. The department of expenditure has amended the General Financial Rules 2017 “to enable imposition of restrictions on bidders from countries which share a land border with India on grounds of defence and national security”, an official statement said.
