Faleiro will also be Trinamool’s face in the Goa assembly elections next year, party leaders said.
Bengal’s ruling party is trying to get a foothold in the coastal state. Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee has appointed MP Mahua Moitra as the party’s state in charge of Goa.
Faleiro, a former Congress leader, is likely to file his nomination for the Rajya Sabha poll at the Bengal state assembly by Tuesday, the last date for filing nomination. Voting is scheduled for November 29.
Faleiro joined the Trinamool Congress on September 29, along with nine other leaders in Kolkata, and was appointed the party’s national vice-president on October 22.
