Bengal BJP feud continues, another leader joins Trinamool Congress

Amid factional feud, crumbling organisational framework and exodus from top level to grassroots, BJP is struggling for the last 10 months in West Bengal. After emerging as the strong opposition force with 77 seats in the assembly elections in May 2021, the party failed to win a single municipality body in the recent civic body polls.

BJP suffered yet another jolt with suspended party leader Joy Prakash Majumdar joining Trinamool Congress on Tuesday. Majumdar has been appointed the state vice president by Trinamool. Majumdar, the former state vice president of BJP, along with another leader Ritesh Tiwari, was temporarily suspended from the party in January.

“I met Majumdar and requested him not to leave the party at this time of crisis. He did not listen to us and joined Trinamool at a time when BJP needed him the most,” said BJP’s Uttarakhand co-in-charge Locket Chatterjee.

Majumdar, however, claimed he was suspended for telling the truth to BJP.

“The newly appointed BJP president Sukanta Majumdar has only two years of experience in politics. The state and district committees were formed based on the closeness of the leaders with state BJP leadership,” Majumdar had said.
