Assam has around 108596 doubtful voters: Nitin Khade, Chief Electoral Officer of Assam

Nitin Khade Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Assam said that Assam has around 108596 doubtful voters.

Assam inspector general of police (law and order), Deepak Kumar Kedia said that around 6221 non bailable warrants have been executed.

Doubtful or D voter tag was first used during the preparation of electoral rolls in 1997.

Doubtful voter’, is a category of voters in Assam who are disenfranchised for lack of citizenship credentials and barred from contesting elections and casting their votes.

Khade said that for the assembly polls in Assam already 40 companies of Central paramilitary forces (CAPF) are there. The total number of voters in Assam stands at 23186362. The number of polling station is around 33,530. Altogether 768 Locations will accommodate CAPF have been identified by the district SSP in association with Civil Administration / CAPF representative.

He added that as the elections are held under COVID-19 protocols. “COVID materials are in stock. Most of the districts have received and few stocks of COVID materials are in transit.”

Khade added that anti defacement drive has started in the state. Chief Electoral Officer in consultation with the Nodal Officer for COVID-19 in Assam has come up with Standard Operating Protocols for various processes related to General Election to Assam Legislative Assembly 2021.

He added that door to Door Campaign- Subject to any other restriction(s) including extant COVID-19 guidelines, a group of 5 (five) persons including candidates, excluding security personnel, if any, is allowed to do door to door campaigning.

“Public gatherings/ rallies may be conducted subject to adherence to extant COVID-19 guidelines. Anybody violating instructions on COVID19 measures will be liable to proceeded against as per the provisions of Section 51 to 60 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, besides legal action under Section 188 of the IPC, and other legal provisions as applicable, as specified in Order No. 40-3/2020-DM-I(A) dated 25th November, 2020 of Ministry of Home Affairs.”

The CEO added that total personnel to be trained for General Election 2021 to State Legislative Assembly, Assam is 2,41,269. A total of 6,93,127 number of training (Rounds and Personnel) will be conducted, out of which 39,175 have been already been conducted as on 26-02-2021.
