Amitabh Bachchan, son Abhishek test positive for Covid-19, admitted to Nanavati hospital; Jr Bachchan urges people to stay calm

Superstar Amitabh Bachchan, on Saturday, along with his son Abhishek, tested positive for Covid-19. Senior Bachchan has been admitted to Mumbai’s Nanavati hospital where he is being kept in an isolation ward, reports

After the news of the Big B being admitted started circulating on Saturday night, the thespian confirmed on Twitter. The 77-year-old actor revealed that his family and staff as well had been tested and the results were awaited.

In a tweet that went out from the actor’s handle, the ‘Gulabo Sitabo’ actor requested that those who had come in his proximity in the past 10 days should get themselves tested.

“I have tested CoviD positive .. shifted to Hospital .. hospital informing authorities .. family and staff undergone tests , results awaited .. All that have been in close proximity to me in the last 10 days are requested to please get themselves tested!,” read the tweet from the actor’s official handle.

Soon after his son actor-producer Abhishek also took to the micro-blogging site to confirm the news, adding that both he and his father had shown mild symptoms. The 44-year-old, who made his OTT debut this weekend with the thriller ‘Breathe’, also requested everyone to stay calm and went on to add that they had “informed all the required authorities”. He also wrote that the actor and his family were complying with the BMC.

Former Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis was among the first who took to Twitter to wish the Big B a speedy recovery. In his tweet, the BJP leader from Nagpur wrote that he wished the actor a quick recovery.

Union Health minister Dr Harsh Vardhan, who has been at the forefront of India’s health crisis, called the actor an “idol of millions… an iconic superstar” as he wished him a speedy recovery. Earlier in March this year when the pandemic broke out, the actor had starred in a minute-long, public service announcement about the preventive checklist to be followed in the wake of Covid-19. The Government of India announcement aimed at spreading awareness among the masses featuring the Bollywood actor was available in English, Hindi and a host of regional languages.

Soon prayers and wishes for the septuagenarian’s speedy recovery poured in from friends and colleagues of B-town.

Meanwhile, soon after the news broke, #AmitabhBachchan and #NanavatiHospital started trending. Mumbai, where the actor resides has been one of the worst-hit cities following the Coronavirus outbreak , recording 91,745 cases and 5,244 deaths so far. The toll remains second only to Delhi, which is the national capital.

The actor was last seen in Shoojit Sircar’s ‘Gulabo Sitabo’ where he starred alongside Ayushmann Khurana. The movie released on the streaming platform Amazon Prime, in the wake of the novel coronavirus after public screenings were disbarred.

On July 8, the actor who often posts evocative poems and posts, tweeted a video narrated in his own voice of some poetic lines that talk about life and death.
