Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president Mayawati on Saturday (December 7, 2024) accused the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Congress of exploiting communal tensions for political dividends in Sambhal and inciting divisions within the minority community. “These two parties are pitting Turks and non-Turks in the Muslim community against each other in Sambhal. Muslims must remain cautious from such tactics,” alleged Ms. Mayawati.
The former four-time U.P. CM targeted the Congress for its silence on the plight of Hindus in neighboring Bangladesh and committing historical blunders during partition. “The Congress remained silent on atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh but shouting about Sambhal, only to cater to Muslim voters, ignoring the broader issues,” added Ms. Mayawati. The BSP leader pointed towards alleged historical injustices faced by Dalits during the Partition of India including handing over the Khulna region in present day Bangladesh to Pakistan. She called it a deliberate move by the Congress.
Ms. Mayawati accused Dalit MPs for being silent on community-related issues and expressed disappointment. She accused them of prioritising party loyalty over the interests of Dalits, whether in India or Bangladesh.
