Whistleblower complaints down 27% among half of Nifty-50 companies in FY21

Whistle-blower complaints can no longer be taken for granted, especially by large, reputed companies with presence in social media and strong brand recall, the head of compliance at a Mumbai-based financial services company said on condition of anonymity.

Synopsis

An analysis of annual reports by ET Intelligence Group revealed that nearly half of the Nifty-50 companies received 3,902 whistle-blower complaints during 2021, down 27% year-on-year. As a sign of improved corporate governance, the number of companies disclosing the complaints increased to 24 in 2020-21 from 19 in the previous year.
